As part of the commitments assumed on the matter, the Chancellery makes a public call to users of product names that, once the agreement enters into force, should stop being used in the local market and Mercosur, as they are considered protected European geographical indications .
As part of the commitments made regarding geographical indications in the Mercosur – European Union Strategic Association Agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs makes a public call summoning all those users of certain product names that, once the agreement enters into force , must cease to be used both in the local market and in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, as they are considered protected European geographical indications.
Although some terms must be definitively discontinued after a certain period, there are others that, due to their generic use, will be exempted from that condition, and their continued use will be allowed, as long as the users are part of a list of users. previous. Only those users who, once the call has been opened and until June 30, 2020, present through an Affidavit a proof that they meet the requested requirements will make up this list.
The terms in question and the conditions that must be met are as follows:
- Parmesan: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Argentina, Paraguay or Uruguay.
- Parmesão: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Brazil.
- Reggianito: having used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Paraguay or Uruguay.
- Reggianito: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Argentina.
- Fontina: having used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay or Uruguay.
- Gruyère/Gruyere: have used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November of 2017 in the territory of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay or Uruguay.
- Gruyerito/Gruyer: having used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Uruguay.
- Manchego cheese (made with cow's milk): having used the term continuously for at least 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Uruguay.
- Grappamiel/Grapamiel: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Uruguay.
- Grana: having used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Brazil.
- Gorgonzola: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Brazil.
- Steinhäger: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Brazil.
- Geneva: having used the term continuously for at least the 5 years prior to November 2017 in the territory of Argentina.
- Genebra: having used the term before November 2017 in the territory of Brazil.
Those users who intend to be part of the list of previous users must submit an Affidavit on compliance with the aforementioned requirements.
To harmonize procedures, it is suggested to use the Affidavit model published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
